Is Sephora or Ulta cheaper? Same product, same price on all 41 pairs we read

41 of 41 same-size pairs across 21 products carried an identical list price at Sephora and Ulta, a $1,933.00 basket at either. The real gaps are Ulta's points, sale timing and the brands each retailer does not stock.

Read on 23 October 2026, all 41 same-size pairs of 21 beauty products sold at both Sephora and Ulta carried an identical list price; the average difference was $0.00 and neither site showed a sale price on any of them.

From each product's page on sephora.com (read in a browser, since Sephora returns an error to automated requests) and ulta.com, 23 October 2026; every price links to its page in the table below.

Is Sephora or Ulta cheaper?

Neither, on the list price of the same product:

  1. 41 of 41 pairs matched to the cent, from $6.00 to $122.00. A basket of all 41 costs $1,933.00 at Sephora and $1,933.00 at Ulta.
  2. Points are the first real difference. Ulta pays 1 point per $1; 100 points are worth $3.00, so 3.0% back at the smallest step.
  3. Sales are the second. Neither site showed a sale price on these items that morning; when one runs a sale, that is the gap.
  4. Stock is the third. Ulta's brand index lacks 8 Sephora brands we checked; Sephora did not list 5 drugstore, derm and K-beauty brands Ulta sells.
  5. Clean labels differ more than prices: see Clean at Sephora vs Ulta's Clean Ingredients.

Do Sephora and Ulta charge the same for the same product?

Yes, on every pair we read. We took 21 products both retailers sell, from a $6.00 serum to a $122.00 treatment, and matched every size listed at both: 41 pairs. The largest gap was $0.00. Neither retailer states a price-match policy on these pages, so treat this as an observation on one morning, not a promise. The brands' own sites agreed where we could read them: Drunk Elephant lists Protini 50 ml at $72.00, The Ordinary lists Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% 30 ml at $6.00, Clinique lists Moisture Surge 100H 1 oz at $31.00, the same as both retailers. Subscription discounts and gifts with purchase are left out: they are offers, not list prices.

If the prices differed, a line would join the ring to the dot and the gap column would show it. Every dot sits inside its ring. Sorted by price; the size shown is Ulta's label.

One caution on sizes: on 7 pairs the labels differ slightly, for example Protini at "1.69 oz/50 ml" on Sephora and "1.6 oz" on Ulta, or Bum Bum Cream at 8 oz against 8.1 oz. They are the same product line at the same price; whether the fill is identical is not something either page states.

Where is the real price difference between Sephora and Ulta?

In what you get back, when each one runs a sale, and what each one stocks. The list price is not where the choice is made, so the useful question is the one below.

Where the difference isa decision tree from the pairs, Ulta's terms and both retailers' stock
Decision tree. Do both retailers sell it? If not, buy where it is sold: 8 brands at Sephora that Ulta's brand index lacks, 5 at Ulta that Sephora's search did not find. If yes, the list price was the same on 41 of 41 pairs read 23 October 2026; the difference is Ulta status or points (Member 1 per $1, Platinum 1.25 per $1, Diamond 1.5 per $1), a sale or bonus event, or nothing.Do both retailers sell it?No: buy where it is soldSephora: 8 brands Ulta lacksUlta: 5 brands Sephoradid not listYes: the list price is the same41 of 41 pairs, gap $0.00You have Ulta statusor points to use1.25 to 1.5 per $1A sale or bonuspoints event is onbuy where it runsNeitherpick by convenienceno price differenceSephora's Beauty Insider terms refused automated reading on 23 October 2026,so only Ulta's rates are drawn here
The list price drops out of the decision: 41 of 41 pairs matched. What remains is stock, status or points, and sale timing.

How much are Ulta Beauty Rewards points worth?

Between 3.0% and 9.4% of what you spend, depending on your status and how many points you cash in at once. Ulta's programme terms, revised 16 August 2026, pay 1 point per $1 on qualifying purchases, 1.25 points once you spend $500 in a calendar year (Platinum) and 1.5 points at $1,200 (Diamond). Redemption is stepped: 100 points take $3.00 off, 2,000 take $125.00. Saving up pays: at the base rate, the 2,000-point step needs $2,000 of spend and returns 6.3%. Points expire at the end of the calendar quarter after their 12-month anniversary; the terms list points that do not expire among the benefits Platinum and Diamond members may get. Ulta's rewards page counts "over 46 million" members and that morning advertised 5X points on select Yves Saint Laurent fragrances through 21 November: bonus events like that are where Ulta's price really moves.

Each bar is dollars off divided by the spend needed to earn those points. Bonus point events and the Ulta credit card add to these rates; they are left out because they change.

Sephora's Beauty Insider programme is the obvious comparison, and we could not read it fairly: its terms page refused automated reading on 23 October 2026, and we do not quote loyalty terms second-hand. If points decide it for you, read Beauty Insider's current terms on sephora.com against the Ulta figures above.

Which brands can you only buy at one of them?

More than you might think, and it settles the question before price does. Ulta's brand index of 1,188 brand pages had no page for LANEIGE, Paula's Choice, Glossier, Glow Recipe, Summer Fridays, Kosas, Tower 28, Youth To The People when we read it. Sephora's own search, read the same morning, returned other brands when asked for CeraVe, La Roche-Posay, Neutrogena, Cetaphil, COSRX products. A missing listing is evidence rather than proof, and stock changes, but for these brands the choice is made for you.

Before you pick a checkout: five checks
1. Is it sold at both? Many brands are at one only.
2. Same size? Labels can read 1.69 oz at one and
1.6 oz at the other for what looks like one jar.
3. Points: Ulta pays 1 point per $1 (more at $500 and
   $1,200 a year); 100 points = $3.00 off.
4. Is a sale or bonus points event on this week?
That, not the list price, is the gap.
5. Will your points expire before you redeem them?

Should you buy at Sephora or Ulta?

How we compared prices

Method

21 products sold at both retailers, most of them from our ingredient database study or the clean-label comparison. Every size listed at both was paired by its label. Sephora's list prices were read from each product page's own data in a normal browser on 23 October 2026, because Sephora refuses automated requests; Ulta's were read from each size's page the same day. List price only: no coupons, member pricing, subscriptions, gifts with purchase, shipping or in-store prices. Ulta's loyalty figures come from its programme terms; the percentages are computed from them, not stated by Ulta.

FAQ

Is Sephora cheaper than Ulta?

Not on list price. Read on 23 October 2026, all 41 same-size pairs of 21 products sold at both had identical list prices. The difference comes from loyalty points, sale timing and which brands each retailer sells.

Which brands are only at Sephora or only at Ulta?

On 23 October 2026, Ulta's brand index had no page for LANEIGE, Paula's Choice, Glossier, Glow Recipe, Summer Fridays, Kosas, Tower 28, Youth To The People. Sephora's search did not return CeraVe, La Roche-Posay, Neutrogena, Cetaphil, COSRX, which Ulta sells.

How much are Ulta points worth?

Ulta's terms (revised 16 August 2026) take $3.00 off for 100 points and $125.00 off for 2,000. At 1 point per $1 that is 3.0% to 6.3% back; Platinum (1.25 points per $1 from $500 a year) and Diamond (1.5 from $1,200) raise it to as much as 9.4%.

When do Ulta Beauty Rewards points expire?

At the end of the calendar quarter after the 12-month anniversary of when they were earned, per Ulta's terms: points earned on 1 November 2025 expire on 31 December 2026. Ulta's terms list points that do not expire while status is kept among the benefits Platinum and Diamond members may get.

Are the sizes the same at Sephora and Ulta?

Usually, but labels can differ slightly: 7 of our 41 pairs showed different figures, such as 1.69 oz at Sephora and 1.6 oz at Ulta for Drunk Elephant Protini, at the same price. Neither page says whether the fill differs.

Is Sephora's Beauty Insider better than Ulta's rewards?

We could not compare them fairly: Sephora's Beauty Insider terms page refused automated reading on 23 October 2026, and we do not quote loyalty terms second-hand. Read its current terms on sephora.com against Ulta's rates above.

Bottom line

On the same product in the same size, Sephora and Ulta charged the same list price every time we looked: 41 of 41 pairs. Choose the retailer that stocks your brand, then the one where your points, status or a live sale are worth more. If clean labels matter to you, the seals differ far more than the prices.
